How Does a Plate Evaporator Work

Similar to a Semi-Welded Plate Heat Exchanger, the sealing in a Plate Evaporator alternates between laser welds and gaskets. Designed for efficient evaporation under vacuum conditions, it features a unique porthole configuration that enhances vaporization performance. The process liquid flows through the welded channel, while the heating medium, such as steam or hot water, circulates in the gasketed channel to facilitate evaporation.

The channel design is asymmetric, with a larger gap for the liquid side and a smaller gap for the heating side. This structure ensures a low-pressure drop for the process fluid while creating high velocity and turbulence in the heating medium, maximizing heat transfer and minimizing fouling.
